In fact,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/2017\/02\/21\/are-we-not-there-yet-on-women-in-tech-sales\/#LhO_skvTWiqh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">industry statistics show<\/a><\/strong> that only 25% of salespeople in the tech industry are women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That number becomes even more brutal when you look at sales management\u2014where only 12% of sales leaders are women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no denying that both sales and technology are still fairly male-dominated fields. So, when you put the two together, it\u2019s unsurprising that women are underrepresented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, as the conversation about increasing diversity continues to gain steam, there\u2019s never been a better time for women to explore careers in tech sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, once they wiggle their feet into the door? Well, as the three facts below illustrate, they\u2019re sure to do a top-notch job in those roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rainmakers.co\/apply-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.rainmakers.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IIf-youre-ready-to-have-top-tech-companies-compete-to-hire-you-create-your-rainmaker-profile-now-___-2.png\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1) Women Can Change the Perception of Sales<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Those oft-repeated stereotypes of what constitutes an effective salesperson typically involve quite a bit of aggression, pushiness, and perhaps even manipulation\u2014qualities that are more frequently associated with men in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, as customers have become increasingly wary of those age-old, slimy sales tactics, women have a real opportunity to shift the way that customers and colleagues alike think about sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cThe notion that a good salesperson has to be pushy, aggressive, and have a don\u2019t-take-no-for-an-answer mentality not only implicitly excludes many women, but it\u2019s also dated and bad for business, especially in tech sales,\u201d<\/em> &#8211; Jordan Leonard in a post for Lever.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Leonard explains that things like relationship-building, attention to detail, and trust are the qualities that make for an effective salesperson today. And, those qualities are far more inclusive of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cIf this were the common perception of the modern salesperson, I\u2019m betting more women would think themselves a good fit for sales and re-consider the career path they may have previously \u2018leaned out\u2019 of,\u201d<\/em> Leonard adds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2) Women Have Strong Emotional Intelligence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no way to say unquestioningly that certain personality traits are only associated with each gender. There\u2019s no one-size-fits-all rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without a doubt, both men and women offer value. Men, for example, have proven to be better at processing negative emotions (like the fallout from failure, which is unfortunately a core piece of a career in sales).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, studies have shown that women typically do possess more emotional intelligence than men\u2014a capability that can serve them well when it comes to connecting with customers and closing the deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is especially true when it comes to one facet of emotional intelligence: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saleshacker.com\/the-resilient-and-empathetic-sales-person\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">empathy<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cWomen tend to be better at emotional empathy than men, in general. This kind of empathy fosters rapport and chemistry,\u201d<\/em> explains Dan Goleman Ph.D., in an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/blog\/the-brain-and-emotional-intelligence\/201104\/are-women-more-emotionally-intelligent-men\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article for Psychology Today<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s obviously an important skill to be successful in sales\u2014meaning women can bring something different to the table in tech sales careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3) Women Tend to Be More Collaborative<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sales is traditionally viewed as a highly competitive career field. And, in many ways, that\u2019s true\u2014everyone is eager to meet their quotas and get new customers to sign on the dotted line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, success in tech sales also requires salespeople to be highly collaborative. From IT departments to product development to customer success teams, salespeople can be far more effective when they\u2019re willing to collaborate across the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is an area where many women excel. As reported by Derek Thompson in an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/business\/archive\/2013\/08\/why-women-prefer-working-together-and-why-men-prefer-working-alone\/278888\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article for The Atlantic<\/a><\/strong>, economists Peter J. Kuhn and Marie-Claire Villeval state in their paper titled \u201cAre Women More Attracted to Cooperation Than Men?\u201d that, in short, women are more willing to work with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why? Well, men tend to overestimate their own abilities.
